October 29, 2020

Why are so many people flocking to Charlotte these days? There’s a reason it’s the most populous city in North Carolina - or maybe a few reasons! From a thriving business district, hot new restaurants and breweries, the low cost of living to easy access to excellent healthcare, beautiful natural scenery as well as having some of the best communities to live for all ages and lifestyles, there’s something for everyone in Charlotte. Take a look at why we all love calling Charlotte home.

WORKING IN THE BUSINESS DISTRICT

Charlotte’s booming business district, Uptown, is home to several Fortune 1000 company’s headquarters, making it a great place to live for those seeking corporate opportunities.

Finance Experts can find themselves working for Bank of America, Lending Tree, Brighthouse Financial, Classic Graphics, Union Bank, Wells Fargo, or Blue Ridge Holding. Construction management professionals have a wide range of company options, including Nucor, United Engineering Group, SteelFab, Simonini Homes, Hall Contracting, and Mechanical Contractors. There are vast opportunities in the technology field, including jobs at Microsoft, IBM, Velocity Tech Solutions, Source Technologies, Levvel, Insource Performance Solutions, and Apex Systems. No matter what area of occupation you’re in, there are endless business opportunities in Charlotte.

ENJOYING THE GREAT OUTDOORS

Outdoor enthusiasts will have no problem staying active in Charlotte. One of the city’s most popular outdoor attractions is the world’s largest man-made whitewater river, found within the U.S. National Whitewater Center. Daily visitors can enjoy fun activities like whitewater rafting, kayaking, ziplining, yoga classes, mountain biking, and stand-up paddle boarding.  During the summer months, enjoy listening to live music along the river! The River Jam showcases different bands on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings all summer long. If you can’t wait for summer, the Whitewater Center hosts nine other unique music festivals throughout the year so that you can enjoy your favorite music in nature year-round!

Looking for an exciting new sport to get your adrenaline pumping? Bicycle Motocross, or BMX, has been growing in popularity worldwide and was recently added to the Summer Olympics. However, you don’t need to be a professional rider to enjoy the sport. Hornet’s Nest BMX in Charlotte is the perfect place for riders of all skill levels to race around the track! It’s free to spectate at the track, but with age groups for everyone, each member of the family can race against their friends!

For those looking to enjoy nature without getting a workout in, be sure to check out the botanical garden at UNC Charlotte! Admission to the garden and greenhouse is free of charge, so you can feel free to visit your favorite plants as often as you like. The university also offers fun, plant-themed classes and events to the public. Depending on the schedule, you can learn about topics including how to identify different plant species, how to make watercolors from botanicals, or how to press flowers into a work of art! If you find yourself enjoying the botanical garden, be sure to visit their annual plant sale. Every Spring, you can take a little piece of the garden home with you, and your donation will help maintain the garden so everyone can continue to enjoy it!

Of course, you can’t forget all the fantastic hiking trails, campsites, and greenways Charlotte has to offer! With so many to choose from, you can explore a new trail every week of the year and enjoy unique scenery every time. Depending on what you’re looking for, there are great trails for a casual walk with friends or more advanced paths for expert hikers. In Charlotte, the possibilities are truly endless!
